Hi there.
Before I dive into the meat and potatoes of what this is about, I thought I’d thank everyone who’s subscribed so far, your ongoing support means a lot. And if you’re not subscribed, why not!? (Nah, I’m genuinely happy that people are reading my stuff regardless).
So why am I writing this short article? Well I’m starting a series and I thought instead of boring everyone at the start of each instalment, I’d explain it all here.
I am 24, apologies if that makes any readers feel old, and I have lived through six World Cups. Now discounting the first one because I would have been about 5 months old, all six of these have come in the 21st Century.
So in the build-up to the seventh in Qatar, I thought I’d take a retrospective look at how the favourites for the competition starting in November faired this century over the next few months.
Brazil, Argentina, France, Germany, Spain and England (sorry Netherlands but I’ve got a special article for you that will be part of this as well), each will get an article detailing the stories that make up the last 20 years of their history in World Cups.
All six teams have experienced highs and lows, setbacks and triumphs and poignant events which have led them to the teams they are now going into the 2022 World Cup.
I’m looking forward to writing this and I hope given my (hopefully) great explanation, you’re looking forward to reading them too.
As you may have seen, I’ve recently moved into freelance work so my schedule is going to be a little more hectic (if you’re reading this and are open to pitches hit me up).
At the moment though, this shouldn’t affect the release of this newsletter so don’t worry about that.
To that end, expect weekly instalments starting on Friday with ‘Brazil: A 21st Century Breakdown Part 1’ (some normal newslettering will continue in between).
See you all soon,
Casey
